Pamela Chappell

Singer/Songwriter Pam Chappell

Singer/songwriter Pamela Chappell is a seasoned performer with a gift for capturing the hearts of her listeners. Performing solo with her guitar, her music ranges from gentle to powerful and from humorous to profoundly touching. She has four vocal CDs to her credit, featuring folk songs, love songs, jazz selections, and songs with a spiritual focus. She has also recorded a meditation CD, “Inner Journey”, with Margery Towne Kivel.

Chappell’s newest CD, “A Little Sunshine”, is a collection of songs for the family. The companion book, “A Little Sunshine for Teachers” is on how to integrate music into a balanced literacy program. Other CDs include “Coming Down Easy”, consisting of jazz, blues and folk music; “Joy in my Heart”, songs with spiritual and metaphysical themes; and “Everything is Alright”, a collection of love songs, ballads, and folk songs. The latter album features Chappell’s response to September 11, the “Peace Canon”, which she has performed with the All God’s Children Community Choir in 2004 for former President Jimmie Carter and in 2005 for an audience of 3,000, including Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

A performer for five decades, she has graced stages in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain, and has sung in a wide variety of venues, including radio, television, schools, festivals, churches, riverboats, theatres, weddings, funerals, conferences, conventions, and benefit functions.

Chappell also gives musical keynote addresses, is an artist in residence for schools, and teaches workshops in literacy and spirituality.

The evening’s set list will also include Manhattan Transfer arrangements of “Operator” and “Occapella”, and a fun arrangement of “The Barber of Seville Overture” as recorded by The King’s Singers. Special features will include a cappella versions of “And So It Goes” and “Yesterday” performed by the men in the group, and “Rock-a-bye Baby” sung by the women, as well as solos performed by various members.

Mustard's Retreat
Thirty-one years may not seem like such a long time in the life of a human being, a tree, or a folk song. But in the fickle world of modern music, where pop stars shy of their 21st birthdays often see their careers dumped into oldies bins, thirty-five years is a very long time.

So as David Tamulevich and Michael Hough celebrate their 31st Anniversary as Mustard's Retreat, the same question seemed to burn among aspiring young performers and road-weary old folkies - why you guys? In searching for the answer, one word comes up again and again, the simple word "audience."

Admission $15.00 / $12.00 / under age 12 free with adult

Lake Effect Jazz Big Band was created in 2000 by Tom Weidle, a Herald-Palladium reporter, and Vito Tenerelli, a St. Joseph band instructor, who both wanted to create an "artistic" jazz ensemble, one that would read only the most state-of-the-art arrangements, and perform strictly as a "concert" jazz ensemble. Tom (since departed for sunny California) and Vito, our first music director, brought the dream to fruition in January 2001 recruiting 20 of the area's finest jazz musicians to play within its ranks.

Music director and saxophonist extraordinaire, Christopher Keech, joined the band in 2001 and brought with him a tour bus full of talent and experience. Chris's experience includes performing with jazz greats John Lewis and Jimmy Heath, Motown stars The Temptations, pop artists Captain and Tennille, and Michael Bolton. He has performed in 18 countries and 49 states. While in the US Air Force, Chris worked as an arranger for ASAF Entertainment and Tops in Blue. He was awarded one of the Air Force's highest peace time honors, the Air Force Commendation Medal. Chris became the band's sole music director in 2003. He has degrees from Lake Michigan College and Western Michigan University.
