WE SING 2005
"Noteworthy Perspectives"
"Musical soul candy" does not come close to describing the harmoniously delicious treat offered Saturday June 11, 2005 at the First Assembly of God, St. Joseph, MI. This performance, featuring world-renowned musicians Tom Chapin and Josh White Jr., with the All God's Children Choir, is an annual concert you will want to be sure to put on your future list of "must attend" events.
The concert, benefiting Calling All Colors, an area program bringing together children of diverse ethnic backgrounds for greater understanding, began with the spellbinding vocal/ guitar performance of Josh White, Jr. His musical career, beginning at age 4, has spanned several decades of reaching out to audiences in nightclubs, television, radio, Broadway, and concert halls all over the world. Josh has recorded with at least a dozen labels while also enjoying a respected career as a children's performer and in-role behavioral teacher. This stunning combination of talent and experience was more than evident, as Josh's love for kids of all ages and passionate musical offerings awed everyone who attended this event.
Joining him onstage was the widely acclaimed entertainer Tom Chapin, who is probably best known for his children and family oriented recordings and songs promoting environmental awareness. These are becoming regarded as classics in the folk genre, for which Tom has received many prestigious music awards, including a Grammy nomination. Tom's amazing command of several acoustic instruments, including guitar, banjo, autoharp, and even the Australian didgeridoo, combined with his warm, genuine, interactive rapport with the audience, invoked a rhythmic response of hand-clapping, toe-tapping, and singing by an enthusiastic crowd.
Last but not least, the All God's Children Community Choir made their entrance, blending their own no less than spectacular energy and talent to the mix. Led by a team of multi-ethnic directors, the choir consists of 70 members aged 3 to 15, from various cities and diverse ethnic backgrounds in southwest Michigan. Their amazing performance inspired listeners with not only a tantalizing treat for the ears, but also with a vision for a brighter, unified, harmonious future for our local community and the world. Organized in 2001 by the Race Relations Council of Southwest Michigan, this group of enthusiastic youngsters has performed over 50 times at many venues in the area. In addition to recording a CD with the popular South Haven based vocalist Pamela Chappell, this is the group's second performance with Josh White, Jr. and Tom Chapin.
Riversong Music Society, one of the proud sponsors of "We Sing", hopes that you will join us next year for this annual event, one of the sweetest musical treats you will ever experience! But don't take our word for it. Come on out and see for yourself…
